Coffee

The perfect end to a meal, after dessert of course, is always a nice strong coffee. This aromatic, luscious and thoroughly brewed drink can bring you back to life after a long heavy meal.

Here are 3 of my favourite ways of having an after meal coffee.

Notes: I'm using a french press to brew the coffee, but you can use your preferred method. All the recipes serve 1.

Black Coffee

  • 2 tablespoons ground coffee (approx. 3 tablespoons of coffee beans)
  • 200 millilitres boiling water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (optional/to taste)
  • 1 cinnamon stick

Place the ground coffee in the press, pour over the boiling water and let it brew for a couple of minutes before pressing. Add the sugar to the serving cup, pour over the coffee and dissolve the sugar with the cinnamon stick. Leave the stick in the cup for extra flavour

Cardamom Coffee with Spiced Cream

  • tablespoons ground coffee (approx. 3 tablespoons of coffee beans)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom (approx. 3 to 4 cardamom seeds)
  • 200 millilitres boiling water
  • 75 millilitres double cream
  • 1/2 tablespoon icing sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon all-spice
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (optional/to taste)

Mix well the ground coffee with the ground cardamom, place the mix on the press and pour over the boiling water. Let it brew for a couple of minutes before pressing.

In a bowl, mix the double cream with the icing sugar, cinnamon and all-spice until it forms soft peaks. Add the sugar to the serving cup, pour over the coffee and mix to dissolve the sugar. Serve with cream on top.

Irish Coffee with Cream

  • 2 tablespoons ground coffee (approx. 3 tablespoons of coffee beans)
  • 200 millilitres boiling water
  • 75 millilitres double cream
  • 1/2 tablespoon icing sugar
  • 1 tablespoon whisky
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (optional/to taste)

Place the ground coffee in the press, pour over the boiling water and let it brew for a couple of minutes before pressing.

In a bowl mix the double cream with the icing sugar until it forms soft peaks. Add the whisky and sugar to the serving cup, pour over the coffee and mix to dissolve the sugar. Serve with cream on top.
